Town Water Storage Tanks Project: Supporting Water Security in Roxby Downs

Fleurieu Civil & Construction was engaged by BHP to deliver the Town Water Storage Tanks Project as part of critical infrastructure upgrades for the Roxby Downs Township. The primary objective was to decommission the existing 10ML potable water dam and replace it with three new 5ML potable water storage tanks, significantly improving the town’s water security and operational efficiency.

Scope of Works

The project involved a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing:

  • Civil works for tank foundations and access

  • Structural and mechanical installation of the three 5ML water tanks

  • Piping systems and tie-ins to integrate the new tanks with the existing water distribution network

  • Electrical and instrumentation (E&I) works to enable automated monitoring and control of the system

These works supported a full upgrade of the potable water storage and delivery system for the township.

Execution & Outcome

The works were delivered over a 21-month program, with practical completion achieved in September 2023. Key outcomes included:

  • Safe decommissioning of the 10ML dam

  • Successful installation and commissioning of three 5ML storage tanks

  • Seamless integration with existing water infrastructure

  • Full compliance with environmental and safety standards

  • Delivered on time and within budget

Final Remarks

This project represents a major milestone in securing the potable water supply for Roxby Downs, aligning with BHP’s broader commitment to sustainability, asset resilience, and regional development.
