Olympic Dam Village: Upgrading Infrastructure with Precision and Purpose
The Olympic Dam Village (ODV) continues to evolve thanks to the successful completion of key civil works as part of Phase 2 of the Village Security Project (VSP). This phase focused on installing conduits and pits, enhancing the Wi-Fi distribution network, and remediating footpaths. These efforts ensure both functionality and long-term durability.
Scope of Works
The project team carried out an extensive list of tasks designed to boost connectivity and restore infrastructure:
Installed dual 100mm in-ground backbone conduits and pits between existing FDH Vaults, aligning with the infrastructure delivered during Stage 1.
Added 50mm conduits and pits to expand the Wi-Fi distribution network, ensuring greater coverage across Area A of the village.
Conducted comprehensive footpath remediation works, reinstating surfaces that were damaged or removed during earlier pit and pipe installations.
Footpath Restoration: More Than a Quick Fix
The footpath restoration wasn’t just cosmetic. It followed a meticulous process to ensure quality and safety:
Debris and excess footpath materials were removed.
Ground surfaces were trimmed, graded, and proof rolled.
A new base layer was constructed.
The final pavement included 150m² of concrete and 600m² of cold mix asphalt.
Results That Speak for Themselves
The project was:
Delivered on time and on budget.
Completed with zero injuries and no Lost Time Injuries (LTI).
Valued at $1.4 million, reflecting both the scale and the attention to detail involved.
Why It Matters
Upgrades like these not only improve day-to-day operations at Olympic Dam Village but also future-proof the site for upcoming developments. Whether it’s civil infrastructure or digital connectivity, delivering works to a high standard supports both safety and productivity across the board.
